Cigar Details
My parents always put me on to my family’s lineage in bits and pieces. As a preteen I spent time in Santiago every summer, which meant Sports, sports and more sports. Every-time we played baseball in the town, the Home Run Wall was literally Tobacco Flowers and plants that stretched for Miles uninterrupted. It was simple, if the ball went into the field, its a HR and we had to replace the ball. To destroy any of the crop would mean some serious repercussions. Shot gun wielding security guards don’t care you’re visiting from NY.
In Santiago my family is from “El Sanchez Bermudez” . The breakdown of it represents one; One of Three of Dominican Replubic’s founding fathers and liberator (Sanchez) . Bermudez refers to the Rum family which owned most of what was Santiago in the 50’s and 60’s. A lot of the houses built early on were more for workers of the Rum factory, workers who helped the family then they were for the Actual Bermudez family. La Aurora is the oldest factory in the Dominican republic (1903) and the Leon Jimenez (La Aurora) operations are part of the Bermudez operation through family ties. My family would point out who worked for different parts of both the Rum and Cigar companies. One thing was for sure, these operations were to be respected.
