The Quesada Family treats every one with the utmost respect and it shows when you visit them in their factory. Interact with them at an event or even follow their social media platforms.
I was on one of these trips to their Factory in Licey which is a province in Santiago. The cigar that really opened up my eyes to the Brand was the Quesada España and it was only available in Spain when it first released. I had no idea when but I knew that I had to smoke it. It wasn’t until another year where the cigar hit the US market and I could purchase my own. Such a great smoke that I put in my rotation. Then I fell in love with how it aged.
One year after working the big smoke in New York, Manolo Quesada asked the crew if we could head to the Town House for a late night cigar; we of course said Heck yea. He got us a couple Pizza pies and we talked cigars. Manolo is an educator and has great stories. His perspective on creating a blend is very open minded. He explained to us the different variables of things that can go wrong during the growing process. The priming and fermenting process. All the adjustments that need to be made in order to produce a product from the soil.
What he taught us was that adjustments can be made no matter what if you plan well. Whats impressive about blending is that age is a variable that is mostly unforeseen. When a master blender is attempting to create a blend age changes for better or worse the initial tasting notes. This can happen with any or all of the 3 components (Wrapper Binder, Filler) in a premium cigar. A lot can be said about the predictability and better yet the unpredictability that is a Well aged cigar.
In this episode we talk about design of esthetics, buying a cigar and buying a fake Cuban.
