We used to play cash poker the day after Procigar ended in DR. They still play for cash but now its a whole production. When we played back in the day, it was a small group of guys a table. It was at Matasa (Which is the previous name of the Quesada Factory). We would play from 1pm till 2 AM as the staff would bring cocktails and food on a rtationary bases. The Food, Unbelievable!
Pete Johnson used to hang out at Procigar Festival before the Nicaraguan Puro Sabor Festival emerged. Pete has always kept to himself and can seem somewhat elusive. Pete Playing poker is a different eliment all together. He’s a live wire with out being loud and obnoxious. The first time I had this cigar was after taking a big Pot of cash from Augusto “Fufi” Reyes in a Hold’em hand that Pete had just folded in. He and Fufi were battling all afternoon and I snuck in and got into the action.
I remember the cigar surprising me not just with taste but with the body of the cigar. The cigar froze me in time. Pete just chuckled after seeing how stuck I became after smoking the cigar. “Man you were actually building a groove and now that you’re smoking my cigar, You suck. I guess my cigar is doing its job”. I just sat there with an idiotic smile and said “I fold”.
In this episode we talk about Tatuaje as a brand, Pete Johnson, cutting a cigar, Boutique Brands and Production, Valleys in Nicaragua, Long Filler vs Non Premium, and refilling a Butane lighter.
