Nick melillo is one of the most creative people in the cigar industry. A man who has had his hand is some of the most booming cigars out of Nicaragua. In his twenties he helped create the Liga Privada Movement with Drew Estate. His new venture has been a breath of fresh air in an ever competing market. Foundation Cigars is kicking ass on the market from the El Gueguense, to The Wise Man Maduro, to The HighclereCastle, all highly rated and all limited production.
People talk about boutique cigars and lose focus of what that means. When I think of Boutique, I think of a curated experience that is limited. Nick understands this deeply. He has incorporated art in music, graffiti and music along with all his projects. I met Nick about 7 years ago and we’ve been cool ever since. On one occasion we had a lunch meeting and ended up chopping it up for 5 hours discussing his plans and roll outs. His knowledge is expansive when it comes to cigars so it’s always a great learning experience hanging with Nick.
Nick’s ability to create intricate blends has set him apart from his peers and predecessors in an important way. Every cigar I’ve smoked has been from their portfolio has been a Home Run. The Tabernacle has been one of my favorite cigars in the rotation of Foundation product.
